Job Description
Missions
The COSMOS project studies the Universe by using digital twins of the local cosmic web, realistic simulations constrained by observational data. It combines advanced computational, statistical, and AI-driven methods to analyze complex datasets and uncover how cosmic structures form and evolve. At the intersection of cosmology, data science, and high-performance computing, it aims at fostering interdisciplinary collaboration while delivering new scientific insights.
Missions are:
- Advance the use of digital twins of the local Universe.
- Develop and apply advanced computational, statistical, and AI-driven tools.
- Extract scientific knowledge about cosmic structure formation.
- Contribute to interdisciplinary research at the intersection of cosmology, data science, and high-performance computing.
Activity
The COSMOS project involves generating, calibrating, and validating digital twins of the local Universe, and applying machine learning and statistical inference to both simulations and observational data. It includes developing scalable algorithms for HPC environments, working on uncertainty quantification and simulation-based inference, and building reusable open-source tools. The work is carried out in close collaboration with computing teams to optimize resources, while investigating key questions on galaxy formation, dark matter, and large-scale structures. Results are disseminated through publications, conferences, and a strong commitment to reproducibility and accessible computational methods.
Your Profil
Skills
- Strong knowledge in cosmology and astrophysics.
- Expertise in numerical simulations (cosmological, N-body, hydrodynamic).
- Proficiency in high-performance computing (parallel computing, optimization).
- Advanced programming skills (Python, C/C++, scientific libraries, Git).
- Experience in machine learning and deep learning.
- Knowledge of Bayesian statistics and uncertainty quantification.
- Ability to analyze large datasets.
- Scientific writing and presentation skills in English.
Your Work Environment
The COSMOS project is hosted at the CRIStAL research laboratory (University of Lille / CNRS), within an interdisciplinary environment that brings together astrophysics, artificial intelligence, and high-performance computing. It involves close collaboration with multiple research teams and international partners, with access to advanced HPC infrastructures and large-scale simulation datasets. The work is fully integrated into ongoing research projects and scientific consortia.
