Job Description
Missions
ERC-Funded Postdoctoral Position in Epigenome Maintenance During DNA Replication at Gustave Roussy Institute (Villejuif, France)
We are offering a fully funded 3-year postdoctoral position to investigate the molecular mechanisms that ensure faithful epigenome maintenance during DNA replication. This position is supported by a European Research Council (ERC) grant and is available from May 1st, 2026 (flexible start date).
Activity
This project aims to uncover novel mechanisms linking DNA replication, fork stability, and chromatin maintenance, with a particular focus on how replication asymmetry between leading and lagging strands constrains genome and epigenome maintenance. These strands differ in mutation rates, DNA damage repair, epigenetic mark inheritance, and transposable element silencing. The lagging strand, in particular, may represent a key source of (epi)genetic instability under pathological conditions such as cancer, yet the underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood. Understanding how disruptions in these processes contribute to cancer development and cell fate decisions is a central objective of the project.
Experimental Systems and Approaches: Cultured human cell lines and mouse embryonic stem cells. The project involves the development and application of innovative genomic approaches to characterize new mechanisms of epigenome stability, combining experimental and computational analyses.
Your Profil
Skills
Candidate Profile
We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher with:
• A Ph.D. or equivalent in genomics, epigenetics, bioinformatics, biostatistics, computational biology, or a related field
• Strong background in chromatin biology, epigenetic regulation, and/or genome stability
• Solid expertise in molecular biology and functional genomics
• Experience with next-generation sequencing technologies
• Interest in developing new genomic methods
• Ability and willingness to participate in hands-on data analysis, including bioinformatics pipelines
A proven track record in epigenetic regulation, genome stability, or functional genomics is required. Experience in collaborative and interdisciplinary research environments is highly valued.
Your Work Environment
Research Environment
The laboratory is part of the Unit of Genome Integrity and Cancers (UMR9019) at the Gustave Roussy Institute, Europe's leading cancer center. Gustave Roussy combines cutting-edge basic research, clinical investigation, and technological innovation, and is located in Villejuif, in the southern area of Grand Paris.
We offer an international, highly collaborative research environment with access to state-of-the-art core facilities, including advanced imaging, genomics, and bioinformatics platforms. Candidates will receive mentorship, career development support, and administrative assistance, especially for international researchers. We actively support applications for national and international postdoctoral fellowships. The lab is involved in several national and international grants and institutional research programs.
Salary and Funding: 3-year fully funded position (ERC). Salary is commensurate with experience and follows national academic standards for postdoctoral researchers.
