Job Description
Missions
The postdoctoral researcher will investigate the impact of noise on the formation and dynamics of nonlinear optical structures — including solitons, dispersive shock waves, and rogue-wave events — during the propagation of light beams in nematic liquid crystals. In particular, the project will focus on revisiting the numerical modeling of light propagation in noisy liquid-crystal media. Indeed, several terms commonly neglected in deterministic models may become significant in the presence of stochastic fluctuations, and their validity must therefore be carefully reassessed.
Activity
The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for:
• developing numerical simulation codes associated with models describing the stochastic propagation of light in liquid-crystal media;
• comparing the full model with its counterpart based on the slowly varying envelope approximation, in order to determine the most relevant theoretical framework depending on the dynamical regimes under investigation;
• once the selected model has been validated, numerically investigating the impact of noise on the formation and dynamics of nonlinear optical structures generated during the propagation of light beams in nematic liquid crystals, including solitons, dispersive shock waves, and extreme events.
• Synthesizing and formalizing the analysis results in laboratory notebooks as well as in scientific and technical reports. Contributing to the writing of the corresponding scientific publications.
Your Profil
Skills
The ideal candidate should have a strong background in nonlinear dynamical systems, with expertise in nonlinear transverse wave propagation and, ideally, in liquid-crystal optics. Proficiency in scientific programming using C++ and/or MATLAB is required.
Your Work Environment
The work will be carried out within the PhLAM laboratory, in close collaboration with the members of the research team. The postdoctoral researcher will join the “Nonlinear Dynamics of Optical Systems” group.
