Job Description
Missions
The postdoctoral researcher will work on PERMORE, a project funded by the French National Research Agency (ANR) and coordinated by Florian Waszak (INCC, UMR 8002), in partnership with Dr Pierre Bourdillon's neurosurgery department at Hôpital Fondation Adolphe de Rothschild (HFAR). The project tests prediction-based theories of action control by determining how perceptual and motor representations overlap in the human brain. Embedded in the clinical setting, the postdoc will run the intracranial EEG experiments in implanted epilepsy patients and analyse the data.
Activity
• Design and program perception-action paradigms: visual localiser tasks, action-effect learning, movements induced by electrical muscle stimulation
• Collect iEEG data (sEEG, ECoG, laminar electrodes) in patients implanted at HFAR, in coordination with the clinical team
• Where needed, run equivalent experiments with OPM-MEG in healthy volunteers
• Analyse the data: local field potentials, oscillatory activity, multivariate decoding, connectivity, current source density
• Write papers and present results at conferences
• Contribute to student supervision
• Ensure compliance with ethical and regulatory protocols (consent, GDPR)
Your Profil
Skills
• PhD in neuroscience, cognitive science, biomedical engineering or a related field
• Proven experience in human electrophysiology, ideally iEEG (EEG or MEG considered)
• Proficiency in Python and/or MATLAB and analysis toolboxes (MNE-Python, FieldTrip or similar)
• Time-frequency analysis, decoding, non-parametric statistics
• Experiment programming (PsychoPy, Psychtoolbox or similar)
• Interest in predictive theories of action control
• Fluent English; French is an asset for interacting with patients
• Independence, rigour, and enjoyment of interdisciplinary teamwork in a hospital environment
Your Work Environment
INCC (UMR 8002, CNRS / Université Paris Cité) has about 100 members in six research groups. The position is split between INCC (Paris 6th) and HFAR (Paris 19th). Each year HFAR treats about 45 to 50 sEEG patients and 25 to 30 ECoG or awake-surgery patients, and has laminar electrodes and an OPM-MEG system. The project includes a collaboration with the sleep laboratory of the University of Tübingen.
Constraints and risks
Work in a hospital setting, with hours adapted to the clinical schedule (occasional evening or operating-room sessions). Regular travel between the two Paris sites.
