Missions

Recruited by the CNRS at the IC2MP for a period of 18 months, the engineer (M/F) will be responsible for conducting an exhaustive bibliographic study on the project, as well as the synthesis and physico-chemical and electrochemical characterisation of new electrode materials for fuel oxidation (alcohol) and oxygen reduction. The engineer (M/F) will also be responsible for data processing and results analysis, and will produce a bibliographic report, progress reports and a final report.

Activities

The direct alcohol oxidation fuel cell is a system that allows liquid fuels, which are often suitable for mobility, to be utilised. The design and development of anode electrocatalyst materials capable of oxidising alcohol at low potentials and active cathodes for oxygen reduction (ORR) remain a challenge for the implementation of a high-performance system. In the framework of ASTRID program, the aim of EPICE project is to develop and implement a direct alcohol oxidation fuel cell system for use in extreme environments. To this end, the following activities will be carried out:
- Synthesis of active anode and cathode nanocatalysts
- Physicochemical and electrochemical characterisation of catalysts
- Shaping of electrodes and the system
- Evaluation of fuel cell performance
- Bibliographic research
- Progress and final reports

Skills

Master's degree in chemistry, materials chemistry, electrochemistry, electrocatalysis, or related area.
- Experience in synthesis and characterization (physico-chemical and electrochemical) of nanomaterials and assessment of the kinetic parameters of reactions.
- Excellent writing and oral communication skills in English.
-The candidate (M/F) must demonstrate scientific rigor, initiative and a strong ability to present and analyze results in writing and orally. The candidate (M/F) must demonstrate a critical mind, autonomy in work, and be a team worker.

Work Context

The candidate (M/F) will work at the Institute of Chemistry of Environments and Materials in Poitiers (IC2MP), UMR 7285 CNRS - University of Poitiers, but in close collaboration with the two partners of the ASTRID EPICE project. The research carried out at IC2MP is part of a comprehensive eco-design approach (see: https://ic2mp.labo.univ-poitiers.fr/) that includes the design and development of active materials for energy conversion and storage. IC2MP thus has the working environment (research team, equipment, platform, etc.) to successfully carry out this mission, which involves several researchers within the ASTRID EPICE project consortium. The candidate (M/F) will work under the supervision of the scientific project manager at IC2MP.
The post is located in a sector subject to the protection of scientific and technical potential (PPST), and therefore requires, in accordance with the regulations, that your arrival be authorised by the competent MESR authority

Constraints and risks

- Handling of chemicals
-The candidate will be subject to the IC2MP laboratory rules for the health and safety
-Possible short time business travels to partners in France.
