Missions
The GATE-LAB experimental platform (GATE UMR5824) seeks a Software Development and Statistical Analysis Engineer to support experimental research in behavioral and experimental economics. The position involves developing computerized experimental protocols, managing experimental sessions (laboratory, online, or field-based), and processing and analyzing data from these experiments.
GATE-LAB conducts controlled, computerized experiments to study individual and collective economic decision-making.
Activities
1. Programming and Development
- Develop experimental software using tools such as Z-Tree (Fischbacher, 2007) and O-Tree (Chen et al., 2016).
- Conduct pilot tests in collaboration with researchers to ensure proper functioning of experimental designs.
2. Experiment Management
- Organize and run experimental sessions in the lab, online, or in the field (participant recruitment, scheduling, and management).
- Maintain and update the participant database.
3. Data Management and Statistical Analysis
- Format and structure data for post-processing (Excel, SQL, CSV, etc.).
- Perform statistical and econometric analyses using standard software (R, Stata).
- Prepare documentation to ensure data reproducibility and transparency.
Skills
- Proficiency in programming; experience with Z-Tree or O-Tree is a strong asset.
- Knowledge of at least one programming language.
- Experience with statistical and econometric software (R, Stata).
- Familiarity with database management systems (SQL, SQLite).
- Knowledge of behavioral or experimental economics is an advantage.
- Good command of written technical English (especially for programming and documentation) and oral English communication.
- Ability to work efficiently in a team, manage priorities, and show initiative and responsiveness.
Work Context
The GATE-Lyon-Saint-Étienne Laboratory (UMR5824) is a joint research unit affiliated with the CNRS, University of Lyon 2, and University Jean Monnet Saint-Étienne, comprising about 100 members.
The position is based in Lyon (7th district).
The GATE-LAB experimental platform includes four specialized laboratories:
- Behavioral Measurement Lab
- Physiological Measurement Lab
- Eye-Tracking Lab
- Mobile Lab
The engineer will report to the Director of the institute, work within a four-person IT team, and collaborate closely with the GATE-LAB manager and the Head of GATE-Lab .
