Job Description

Missions

The ANR CONTAM project (Digitised Occitan Corpus of Ancient and Modern Texts) aims to compile, publish and make available to the public and researchers a digitally annotated corpus of Occitan texts covering the period from the 16th to the early 19th century. The new postdoctoral researcher will join the SYLDO team at Gipsa-lab, a recognised centre for dialectology and geolinguistics specialising in language contact and diatopic variation in Romance languages.

Activity

The postdoctoral researcher will work under the supervision of Giovanni Depau but with a high degree of autonomy. Their work will involve analysing the dynamics of spatial variation observable in the corpora, as well as the linguistic interpretation of the annotated data, in conjunction with existing dialectal resources.
The postdoc will also play a role in integrating Occitan data into a variation-oriented corpus linguistics approach.

Your Profil

Skills

At least a basic knowledge of the Occitan language.
Word processing and natural language processing.
Good ability to carry out documentary research in libraries and archives.
Good interpersonal skills (teamwork within the Gipsa-lab and between teams participating in the ANR CONTAM project

Your Work Environment

GIPSA-lab is a joint research laboratory of the CNRS, Grenoble-INP and Grenoble Alpes University; the laboratory is also under agreement with Inria and Observatoire des Sciences de l'Univers de Grenoble. At GIPSA-lab, we develop theoretical and applied researches on CONTROL, SIGNAL and IMAGES PROCESSING,
SPEECH, COGNITION, ROBOTICS and ARTIFICAL INTELLIGENCE.
Multidisciplinary and at the interface between the human, physical and digital worlds, our research is confronted with measurements, data and observations from physical, physiological and cognitive systems. It focuses on the design of methodologies and algorithms for processing and extracting information, decisions, actions and communications that are viable, efficient and compatible with physical and human reality. Our work is based on mathematical and computational theories for the development of models and algorithms, validated by hardware and software implementations.
By relying on its platforms and partnerships, GIPSA-lab maintains a constant link with applications in a wide range of fields: health, environment, energy, geophysics, embedded systems, mechatronics, industrial processes and systems, telecommunications, networks, transportation and vehicles, security and operational
safety, human-computer interaction, linguistic engineering, physiology and biomechanics...
Due to the nature of its research, GIPSA-lab is in direct and constant contact with the economic environment and society. Its potential of teacher-researchers and researchers is invested in training at the level of the universities and engineering schools of the Grenoble site (Université Grenoble Alpes).
GIPSA-lab develops its research through 16 teams or themes organized in 4 poles:
-Automation and Diagnostics (PAD)
-Data Science (PSD)
-Speech and Cognition (PPC)
-Geometries, Learning, Information and Algorithms (GAIA)
The staff supporting the research (38 engineers and technicians) is distributed in the common services within two poles :
-the Administrative and Financial department
-the Technical department
GIPSA-lab has about 150 permanent staff, including 70 teacher-researchers and 41 researchers. It also hosts visiting researchers and post-doctoral fellows.
GIPSA-lab supervises nearly 150 theses, including about 50 new ones each year. All the theses carried out in the laboratory are financed and supervised by teacher-researchers and researchers, 50 of whom hold an HDR.
Finally, about sixty master trainees join the laboratory every spring.
