Missions

The NEUTRINO LP2i Bordeaux group is deeply involved in the conception, production, installation of the 3-inch PMT front-end electronics as well as the commissioning and simulation of the whole PMT system. The group has also a leading role in the preparation of the data analysis, especially in the simulation development and optimization related to cosmogenic and radioactive-induced background estimation.

Activities

The candidate will study the data taken with the SPMT system during the commissioning phase and define the calibration procedures. Moreover he/she will participate to the first data analysis during the LS filling with the goal of estimating the background rate and their energy spectra which are key parameters for the mass ordering determination.

Skills

The candidate must have obtained his PhD between fall 2022 and fall 2024 in neutrino or particle physics. He/she should demonstrate a high level of autonomy and have acquired skills in photodetectors, data analysis and simulation.

Work Context

JUNO (Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory) is a 20 kilo-ton multi-purpose underground Liquid Scintillator (LS) detector located in China with the main objective of determining the neutrino mass ordering in 6 years. To do so, JUNO will detect neutrinos from nuclear reactors at a distance of 53 km with an excellent energy resolution and a large fiducial volume. Moreover, JUNO will address many important topics in neutrino physics, such as the precise measurement of three oscillation parameters at the sub-percent level, and in astro-particles physics such as supernova neutrino detection and proton decay search, among others. The data taking during the LS filling is foreseen to start early 2025.

The position is located in a sector under the protection of scientific and technical potential (PPST), and therefore requires, in accordance with the regulations, that your arrival is authorized by the competent authority of the MESR.

Constraints and risks
