Description of the thesis topic

This research program funded by the ANR, relies on synthetic innovation and is driven by the importance of step economy towards the construction of molecular diversity – both for advancing synthesis and providing semi-conducting polymers (relevant compounds for new material industry). We suggest adding the expertise of both partners to develop a new approach to benzocyclobutene moieties and, to use those benzocyclobutenes in a controlled polymerization process to deliver a well-defined pi-conjugated system offering semi-conducting properties.
This proposal falls within the context of organic molecular chemistry and is directed toward the production of knowledge. Although the present project is at its fundamental stage, the impact on the industrial synthesis of fine chemicals and material science should not be under evaluated.

Work Context

The experimental work will be conducted at “Institut des Sciences Moléculaires de Marseille” in the STeRéO team (http://ism2.univ-amu.fr/fr/stereo/stereo). The success of this project will be ensured by a strong scientific complementarity between organic experts and polymer chemist specialists of “Institut de Chimie Radicalaire” (CROPS team - http://icr-amu.cnrs.fr/spip.php?rubrique10).

Additional Information

A solid background in organic chemistry is required and knowledge in analytical characterization is strongly recommended for this position. The candidate should know how to integrate a team and has the enthusiasm and willingness to learn every day. A B2 Level of French and/or English is essential. An Organic chemistry Master degree with honours is necessary as well as 6 months experience in synthetic organic chemistry.
