Description of the thesis topic

Our laboratory studies the molecular and physical principles that govern the organization of the actin cytoskeleton. In this context, the student's project will be to determine experimental conditions that allow the maintenance of a dynamic actin cytoskeleton as observed in the cell.
To achieve this result, the candidate will first express and purify the proteins necessary for this project. The activities of these proteins will first be studied by biochemical techniques, and the results of these experiments will be modeled to know the details of these chemical reactions. The use of these results will then allow the student to develop more complicated biomimetic systems to reconstruct actin dynamics in vitro.
This project is suitable for physicists or experimental chemists with at least a basic knowledge of biology. Applications from biologists motivated by these interdisciplinary projects will also be considered. Basic coding skills are recommended. Applicants should be driven by their curiosity and be able to advance a scientific project by interacting with colleagues or searching the literature.

Work Context

IBDM is located on the Luminy Campus and comprises about 240 permanent researchers, professors, engineers and technicians and non-permanent staff (CDD, post-docs, PhD students, trainees) working in 21 research teams and 11 technical platforms and services.
IBDM is a joint research unit under the supervision of the CNRS and the AMU, which explores the field of developmental biology and associated pathologies.
As the team is composed of several nationalities, English language skills are essential.

Constraints and risks

The position involves the typical risks of working in a laboratory and on a computer.
