Description of the thesis topic

The focus of the project is on the impacts of Arctic climate change on the global climate system and more generally on climate links between high and low latitudes and between different ocean basins. Examples of the topics of interest are (1) the impacts of the Arctic ocean on the stability, variability and predictability of the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation (AMOC), possibly within an optimal perturbations approach; (2) Links between different ocean basins, with a focus the El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO), decadal climate variability and the ITCZ migration.

Work Context

The work will involve numerical modeling, analyses of observational and GCM data, and analytical approaches. As part of LOCEAN/IPSL (VARCLIM team) the PhD will be part of the project ARCHANGE (Arctic Climate Change and Global Ocean Circulation) funded by the “Make Our Planet Great Again (MOPGA)” initiative of the President of France. Different parts of the project will be led by Drs. Alexey Fedorov, Eric Guilyardi, Juliette Mignot, Guillaume Gastineau, Jerome Vialard, Matthieu Lengaigne and Florian Sevellec. Two other Postdoc position are advertised.
