CC-IN2P3 is looking for a dynamic and motivated candidate to take part in the EOSCAPE European project ( whose main objective is to explore possible technical solutions for big data management and processing on a European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) if which CCIN2P3 is partner. Our data centre is involved in prototyping a Data Lake–type of storage architecture for data distribution, access and exchange across distributed European e-infrastructures.
Possibilities of short duration travel in France and abroad.


You will participate to the design, configuration and implementation of a testbed following predefined requirements: installation and configuration of software layers for data management and transfer, tests of functionalities and performances. Expected functionalities include automatic replication between data centres, cache mechanisms for fast access and orchestration of automatic workflows. You will focus on providing technical solutions to satisfy requirements and to deploy and test them into pilots.
You will collaborate closely with local teams of CC-IN2P3 as well as with our European data centre partners with recognized expertise on the field such as CERN in Switzerland, DESY in Germany and CNAF in Italy among others. You will also interact with research communities for which these systems are deployed.


A diploma in computer science or another related scientific field.
Would you be beginner or experienced engineer, all profiles will be considered as long as you demonstrate your capability and motivation to bring your current skills in the project and to acquire the yet missing ones. Among the skills required for this project are:
•The use of various scripting and software languages on a Linux platform (shell, python, …) and of automation tools (puppet, Ansible).
•The deployment on virtualized and containerized environments (Openstack, Docker, Singularity, Kubernetes)
Previous experience in the context of a data centre would be a plus.

Besides the technical knowledge:
•You have strong commitment in interacting with different communities and moving towards solving problems and providing sustainable solutions.
•You are fluent in English and French and you have good communication skills;
•You are well-organized and autonomous but you also know how to play in a team;
•You know how to prioritize your work with constraints and deadlines;
•You value user experience and aim to deliver the best possible service

Located in Lyon (France), the IN2P3/CNRS Computing Centre (CC-IN2P3) is a international facility providing computing and storage services for scientific research, mainly in the field of high energy physics. More than 4,000 users working on 70 international scientific experiments use its services on a 24x7 basis.

The current CC-IN2P3 infrastructure for computing and for storage of large amounts of data is used by the experiments for their data management and analysis tasks. The computing farm offers experiments more than 40000 CPU cores and its storage capacity exceed 100 Petabytes. This capacity is expected to increase by a factor 10 during the next few years.
The CC-IN2P3 is involved in various projects including the ESCAPE project. The ESCAPE project is a first phase in the development of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC), the future infrastructure for large throughput computing, network and storage for Europe. The goal is to give a major boost to Open Science in Europe by coping with the dramatic increase in the amount and variety of the data accumulated in Science, industry and services by providing a large-scale European computing infrastructure built across already existing high-performance and high-throughput computing infrastructures.

Additional Information

First review of the application will begin on the 26th of August, until the position is filled and aiming at hiring as soon as the good candidate is available. The selected candidates will be selected for on-site interview. The interview will be held in French and in English.
