We are currently inviting applications from enthusiastic post-doctoral candidates to participate in a research project (2-years position) conducted in a mixed public/private environment between a CNRS team and the Adisseo Company. Previously, a comparative study identified a set of new genes activated during stress situations conserved between different species. The research program centers on the characterization of cell signaling pathways controlling this genetic program and participating in the mechanisms of resistance or adaptation to stress.
This project which aims at characterizing the importance of different signaling pathways in stress defense is organized in two steps: The first one intends to validate pathways predicted based on the use of bioinformatics tools. In this study, the differential expression of target genes will be analyzed in different stress models carried on cell cultures. In parallel, a high throughput screening using the PamGene technology will search for the activation of other unidentified signaling pathways. A second analysis conducted on animal models will integrate obtained information at a physiological level. Studies on animal models will be conducted in collaboration with another CNRS team and the experimental research center of the Adisseo Company.
The candidate must hold a Ph.D in biology with <2 years post-doctoral experience.
The applicants are expected to have a strong background in molecular and cellular biology, including previous experience in cell culture, gene expression analysis by quantitative PCR, and use of inhibitors/activating reagents of the identified signalling pathways to test their impact on the expression of target genes, as well as to promote resistance to stress.
The ideal candidate should be highly curious and enthusiastic to develop and conduct his/her project independently. A proven ability to identify key research objectives and meet agreed deadlines, in addition to self-motivation, flexibility and team effort spirit. Excellent written and communication skills towards non-specialist scientists, are mandatory.
The candidate will join a biochemistry and molecular biology team entitled 'Post-transcritpionnal Rgulation and Nutrition' of the unit 'Architecture and Reactivity of RNA' (UPR 9002 of the CNRS), at the Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology (IBMC) g. This department is localized on the campus of the University of Strasburg. The lab provides state-of-the-art facilities to perform cellular and molecular biology, biochemistry, as well as Biosafety Level 2 laboratory and animal housing.
The project will be conducted in the framework of the Laboratoire Commun DiagnOxi, a shared structure co-directed by CNRS and the Adisseo Company. Adisseo a world leader in animal nutrition supply with over 2000 employees worldwide. A part of the project will be conducted in collaboration with another CNRS team in Gif s/ Yvettes, internationally recognized for its works on the animal model C elegans.
Constraints and risks
A large part of the experimental work will be carried out in a Biosafety Level 2 laboratory. Therefore, mastery of good laboratory practices is a requirement.
