The AI4HRI project aims to build an open-source architecture based for the management of human-robot interactions. The architecture will provide a knowledge management system as well as an ontology associated with reasoning and learning capabilities. The system will be designed to manage a global interaction from planning to execution (and error recovery if necessary). The AI4HRI project is a joint project between France (Aurélie Clodic https://homepages.laas.fr/aclodic/ and Rachid Alami https://homepages.laas.fr/rachid/ , LAAS CNRS), Germany (team of Professor Michael Beetz, https://ai.uni-bremen.de/research, Bremen) and Japan (team of Professor Takayuki Kanda, http://www.robot.soc.i.kyoto-u.ac.jp/en/, Kyoto). Within the framework of the project, the LAAS is responsible for the execution and planning of the joint human-robot tasks and it will be the researcher's mission to manage this aspect in coordination with the other researchers of the project.
The position will be based in Toulouse, France. Travel to Germany and Japan for short stays will be possible.

Interest for human-robot interaction.
Specific expertise/experience in the following areas is particularly welcome:
- Planning and execution of tasks taking into account the human for human-robot social interaction
- Human-robot communication models (multimodality) and implementation
- Social robots
- User studies (design and implementation)
- Ph.D. in Robotics and AI, Human-Robot Interaction, Cognitive Robotics or related topics
- Strong programming skills and a good knowledge of systems and tools such as ROS, Linux and Git are essential.
The work will take place in the Robotics and InteractionS team within the robotics department of the LAAS. It will be supervised by Aurélie Clodic https://homepages.laas.fr/aclodic/, PI of the ANR AI4HRI project and Rachid Alami https://homepages.laas.fr/rachid/ , LAAS CNRS.
Constraints and risks
The contract has a duration of 12 months with the possibility of extension up to 36 months. The successful candidate will work on the ai4hri project.
The contract may begin in the spring of 2021 or at a later negotiated date. Applications will be reviewed on an on-going basis.
Short stays in Germany or Japan will be possible.
