The project objectives are: to engineer materials hosting magnetic chiral domain walls and skyrmions; to optimize their mobility under the application of spin polarized current; to tune and control skyrmion and chiral domain walls properties with an electric field.
The candidate will carry out an essentially experimental work. He/she will grow thin magnetic layers and characterize the magnetic textures with magnetic microscopy techniques (MOKE, AFM-MFM). He/she will elaborate nanostructures using the most promising materials. He/she will measure the magnetization dynamics driven by electrical current, in the presence of electric fields.
- PhD degree in physics with good knowledge in micro/nanomagnetism.
- 1 to 3 years experience in a laboratory of applied physics
- Experience in AFM/MFM characterization and cleanroom work is an advantage
- English speaking, reading and writing is mandatory
- Good communication skills and ability to work in a team
This project will take place at the Institut Néel, UPR 2940 of CNRS, one of the largest French laboratories dedicated to applied physics. The candidate will be hosted by the Micro and Nanomagnetism team. This international team (25 people) studies and develops thin films of magnetic materials and their applications to spintronics, biology and energy.
The research position is funded by the TEE DARPA project , dedicated to the study and optimization of magnetic skyrmions.
Constraints and risks
Experiments in synchrotron radiation centers outside France may be envisaged.
