Missions

The main mission of the employee will consist in handling of a local probe microscopy experiment inside a dilution refrigerator, an experiment that is coupled to an ultra-high vacuum surface preparation chamber.

Activities

The employee will prepare atomically flat surfaces under ultra-high vacuum, using ion bombardment and high-temperature annealing. He/she will further deposit molecules by evaporation onto the surfaces of interest. The optimal evaporation conditions as a function of sample temperature will be studied. He/she will participate to scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy experiments on the superconducting surfaces at very low temperatures. The activity will consist in mapping the low energy density of states in the vicinity of the molecules. Eventually, he/she will contribute to the analysis of the data.

Work Context

The employee will work within the QuNES team, under the supervision of C. Winkelmann, and in collaboration with S. Garaudée (IE pôle Epitaxie). The team is specialized in low temperature tunneling spectroscopies of effects related to mesoscopic superconductivity.
The Institut NEEL, UPR 2940 CNRS, is one of the largest French national research institutes for fundamental research in condensed matter physics enriched by interdisciplinary activities at the interfaces with chemistry, engineering and biology. It is located in the heart of a unique scientific, industrial and cultural environment. It is part of one of Europe's biggest high-tech environment in micro- and nanoelectronics, right next to the French Alpes.

Constraints and risks

Presence in the lab outside of the usual working hours might be punctually required. The experimental activity requires the handling of cryogenic fluids and high-voltage electronics (<2kV).
