In the Sign Language modelling and processing team (M&TALS) at LISN, we develop a 2D graphical form of Sign Language discourse representation, which can be synthesised by virtual signers (animation of 3D avatars). These graphical productions come in the form of planar recursive diagrams comparable to mathematical or arithmetic equations, involving icons, Unicode characters and topological arrangements between them. The goal of this mission is to develop a software editor for such constrained diagrams, as a stand-alone web application first, then to integrate to an existing platform developed with the Angular framework.
A design effort on the graphical user interface will be necessary, but the extent of it can be adjusted to the research vs. engeneering balance seeked by the candidate. The expected minimum is an interface with entries through classical menus and toolbars, but we later wish to allow entries through drawing tablets. Depending on the candidate's profile, a 2D shape recognition module will therefore be considered for integration.
- design and development of a graphical editor web interface
- participation in the team's meetings, typically weekly
- document the delivered software pieces as needed for deployment, use, maintenance and future extensions
- framework Angular (ou équivalent avec inter-opérabilité)
- conception et réalisation d'interfaces utilisateur
- option appréciée : reconnaissance de formes, d'écriture en 2D
- maîtrise de l'anglais scientifique
LISN is a new CNRS lab resulting from the recent merging of LRI and LIMSI, situated on the Moulon plateau in Orsay (91), spanning 5 buildings. It is involved in many national and international projects and supports a wide range of research topics, from computer science to fluid mechanics. It hosts more than 400 members acros 5 research departments and 6 supporting services. All premisses are ZRR (restricted access zone).
The recruited person will be part of the ILES research group (written and signed language information), composed of 27 people, in the STL department (language processing and technology).
The recruited person will have an office, desk and work station at the lab, and integrate the M&TALS team (Sign Language modelling and processing), present in the vicinity and interacting on a daily basis.
This mission is in the scope of the European EASIER project (ICT-57), led by a consortium of 14 partners across 8 countries of the union, aiming at multilingual translation between vocal and signed language.
