Missions

The candidate will be responsible for the development of a new optical endoscopic prototype based on the miniscope, and will aim to perform ultra-deep neural functional imaging in small, freely behaving animals, in collaboration with neuroscientists and ethologists. The prototype will be tested on phantom samples, and then transferred to mice. The project will be carried out in the framework of the Human Frontiers Science Program (HFSP) entitled "Sounds and pheromones: neural networks merging olfactory and acoustic cues in sexual imprinting".

Activities

The prototype will be tested on phantom samples, and then transferred to mice. The candidate will follow the development of the system from conception to actual implementation in the field. The candidate will have the opportunity to interact as part of the collaboration.

Skills

Needed skills:
Previous work in optics/microscopy/endoscopy; prior experience in neuroscience/biology appreciated but not required.
Programming (Python and/or Matlab and/or C)

Not a prerequisite, but well appreciated any experience in these areas:
Rapid prototyping
Optomechanics
Knowledge of physics of light propagation in complex media
Being involved in experiments with murine models
Optical design
Open-source development

Work Context

Dynamic team of opticians and physicists working on optics in complex media, with about 15 members.

Constraints and risks

Optical experiments (lasers), interaction with biologists, possible experiments on animals (in the framework of collaborations).
