A three year postdoctoral position (1 year renewable) starting early of 2019 is open in the research group of Grégory Boël at the “Institut de Biologie Physico-Chimique” (IBPC), in the unit "Expression Génétique Microbienne" (CNRS UMR 8261) and the group of Yaser Hashem at the Université de Bordeaux.

We have recently shown that protein belonging to the ABC-F family are translation facteur that modulate ribosome activity (Boël, G., et al., / Chen, B., et al., Nat Struct Mol Biol, 2014. 21(2)). Some ABC-F proteins are involved in bacterial adaption to their environment, but some specific ABC-F proteins are also involved in antibiotic resistance. Recent publications confirmed that the antibiotic resistance is mediated by direct interaction of the ABC-F factor and the ribosome (Crowe-McAuliffe C, et al., Murina V, et al.) but the mechanism of action is still not understood. We propose to study this question using a genetic, biochemical and structural approach. Ours groups have developed an experimental setup that allows easy study of one ABC-F in vivo and in vitro.

-We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with a PhD in any area of bacterial molecular biology and biochemistry. The ideal candidate should be familiar with protein synthesis and RNA biochemistry and structural biology. Previous experience with cryo- electron microscopy is a plus. The successful candidate should be a motivated scientist with great potential and a good team-worker.

Applicants should send their CV with full list of publications and three references that can be contacted, to Grégory Boël at boel@ibpc.fr and Yaser Hashem yaser.hashem@u-bordeaux.fr.
