Missions
We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to compare the cell type composition between different insect visual systems in an effort to understand how neuronal diversity evolves. The recruited postdoc will adapt and develop comparative transcriptomic approaches using single-cell sequencing datasets in insect visual systems. This project will be funded by an ERC starting grant, running from September 2021 to August 2026.
Activities
The postdoc will adapt and develop protocols to compare single-cell transcriptomic datasets between different insects. They will then use these protocols to compare cell type composition between different insect visual systems.
Skills
The recruited postdoc should preferably have:
- Strong interest in neuronal development and/or neuronal evolution
- Competence in R and/or python
- Experience with single-cell sequencing datasets
- Some experience in use of molecular genetic tools
- Scientific communication in English (required)
Work Context
The postdoc will work in a recently established team at the Institut Jacques Monod. The team “Comparative developmental neurobiology” is led by Nikos Konstantinides. The work environment is international and a good level of communication in English is essential.
The initial duration of the contract will be one year, with possible extension up until the end of the project (August 2026).
