We are looking for a highly-motivated Post-doctoral Research Scientist with knowledge in the fields of mRNA metabolism and localization to join the team “RNA biogenesis and genome homeostasis” at Institut Jacques Monod (CNRS/Université de Paris, France – https://www.ijm.fr/en/975/equipes/rna-biogenesis-and-genome-homeostasis.htm)
Current work in the lab aims to uncover novel cis- and trans- acting regulations targeting mRNA metabolism, to decipher their impact on gene expression patterns and genomic integrity, and to further unravel the spatial organization of these processes. We recently reported that a subset of mRNAs encoding nuclear proteins are translated at nuclear pore complexes in budding yeast (Lautier et al., Mol Cell 2021). In this frame, the proposed project will explore the molecular mechanisms underlying mRNA translation at nuclear pores, and determine the impact of localized protein synthesis on the dynamics of the nuclear proteome.


The project will combine transcriptome-wide approaches with mechanistic studies based on yeast imaging and molecular biology/biochemistry techniques.
The applicant is expected to:
- contribute to the design of the project,
- develop the methodologies,
- perform the experiments,
- analyze and communicate the data,
- manage the collaborations,
- write scientific reports (publications).


The applicant must have a PhD in biological or biochemical sciences and demonstrable experience in molecular biology and biochemistry. Previous expertise in mRNA biology, yeast models or bioinformatic analyses of transcriptomic data will be greatly appreciated. Strong organizational and team working abilities to take projects from conception to completion, as well as verbal and written communication skills in English will be required (French is not mandatory). The applicant's CV and publication record should be competitive for national/international post-doctoral fellowships.

Work Context

The Institut Jacques Monod (IJM) is one of the main centers for basic research in biology in the Paris area, and gathers around 30 research groups working on genome biology, cellular dynamics or development. The post-doctoral fellow will benefit from this highly dynamic scientific environment and from the leading-edge core facilities available within the IJM building (proteomics, imaging), located in the Université de Paris campus in the Paris left bank.
