Missions

- contribution to the development of the ground segment software for the SVOM X-ray camera data processing
- setting up a simulation chain
- background modeling
- development of a scientific validation chain for the software

- teamwork of 4 people (3 astronomers and 1 engineer) in close cooperation with other laboratories and institutions (CNES, CEA, CNRS, Universities) involved in the project

- knowledge in statistics and image processing allowing the implementation of specific algorithms in collaboration with astronomers

Work Context

The SVOM mission is a Sino-French space project dedicated to the study of transient events in the Universe. It should be put into orbit at the end of 2021. It is an observation platform capable of rapidly pointing gamma ray bursts, high-energy explosions that can be detected even in the distant universe. If the event is considered of interest, a ground tracking network is activated. The satellite observes at several wavelengths (gamma, X-rays and visible light) using dedicated cameras. A group of laboratories is in charge of processing the data from each camera. The role of the Strasbourg Observatory is to develop the processing chain that will transform the data transmitted by the satellite's X-ray camera into scientific products.
