The objective of this research work is to optimise innovative polymer binders from the company SNF, world leader in the field of water-soluble polyacrylamides, used in the composition of negative electrodes for graphite-based Li-ion batteries or graphite-silicon composites.
Battery electrodes are currently prepared by coating techniques that require control of the flow properties of the inks (viscosity, sedimentation resistance, pseudoplasticity, etc.). These properties are largely provided by the polymeric binders that are added and that will also condition the mechanical properties of the electrodes after drying. It has also been shown, particularly for high-capacity electrodes containing silicon, that the binder plays a major role in controlling its volume expansion. In this project, SNF wishes to identify alternative polymers with better properties. Thus, in this project, the following actions will be carried out
- Formulation of electrodes on the CNRS prototyping platform using polymers from SNF
- Production of Li-ion batteries in coin cell format
- Electrochemical characterisation of materials
- Post-mortem analysis of electrodes after ageing
A PhD in materials chemistry/electrochemistry is required. Skills in polymer chemistry and/or battery electrochemistry are expected. Rigour and reliability will be required as well as initiative and organisational skills.
The work will take place at the Laboratory of Reactivity and Chemistry of Solids in Amiens in collaboration with the company SNF. Missions will have to be carried out within the partner company.
