A post-doctoral position is available in the new research group "Cellular Sex and Physiology" of the Institut de biology Valrose-Nice (France). We are interested in developmental, metabolic or behavioral sexual differences and seek to understand how sex chromosomes (XX versus XY) affect body physiology. We are currently identifying new genes/signaling pathways that cause the effects of sex chromosomes using multi-scale approaches combining biochemistry, genetics, and cell biology. For this, we use Drosophila melanogaster fly as a model system. More information can be found on the laboratory's Web page (http://ibv.unice.fr/research-team/hudry/). The main mission will be to implement and carry out an experimental approach.
The main activities will be as follows:
-Experimental protocol achievements (main activities: Fly genetics, microdissections, immunostainings and molecular biology)
-Data collection and analysis
- Presentations (written and oral, in English) of experimental results by placing them in an appropriate conceptual and bibliographic framework
-The candidate must have a PhD in biology when starting the job.
-Experience in quantitative imaging, cell biology and/or developmental biology.
-The candidate must speak fluent English (spoken and written).
-The candidate must have a scientific publication (s) in the first author.
We are looking for highly motivated candidates interested in cell biology and development. Candidates must have a good working knowledge of imagery and image analysis or prior experience in conducting behavioral experiments. A previous experience of Drosophila is an asset, but is not obligatory. We attach great importance to team spirit and a positive work environment.
The Institute of Valrose Biology (27 teams; 300 people; 25 nationalities) is an international institute (English is the working language) endowed with a rich and living scientific environment. The IBV provides state-of-the-art facilities, with a lively and collaborative atmosphere in a beautiful city/region.
Our team was launched in September 2018 and is composed at the moment of 3 persons (two statutory researchers and one technician). The position will be funded for two years through a ATIP-future grant and should ideally start in Avril 2019. The candidate will interact closely with a researcher of the team and will have the opportunity to work with master students.
