Missions

-This project takes place in the current context of a sharp increase in the integration density of electronic systems for communication, tracking or surveillance equipment. The objective is the design of antenna systems with wide spatial coverages and wide frequency bands in order to provide high performance as well as multi-functionality capabilities. This project takes place in the current context of a sharp increase in the integration density of electronic systems for communication, tracking or surveillance equipment for both military and civilian applications. In fact, increasing the bandwidths of multi-function radar antennas, which exploit beamforming over a large angular sector, is a major challenge for them in order to improve their spatial resolutions and their probability of detection. On the other hand, in the civilian sector, the new cellular coverage takes advantage both of the increase in spatial diversity provided by the active electronic scanning antenna arrays but also of the extension of the bandwidths to increase the rates.

Activities

The recruited person will have the task of developing broadband and miniature structures from dielectric resonators. A preliminary design offering satisfactory performance will be retained for manufacture. This will validate the manufacturability by 3D printing of the X-band antenna structures and the microwave performance. Coupling evaluation between neighboring elements will be performed via S-parameter measurements. Unit diagram measurements at different frequency points will be performed with the StarLab Satimo. Structure optimization will be performed for networking with the objective of reducing inter-element coupling.

Skills

The candidate should hold a PhD in the field of electrical engineering, physics or an equivalent title. A good A good level of spoken and written English is required. Practical knowledge of electromagnetic simulation software (HFSS, CST, ADS or others) will be highly appreciated.

Work Context

-The LEAT (Laboratory of Electronics, Antennas and Telecommunications) is a joint research unit between the University Côte d'Azur (UCA) and the CNRS UMR 7248. It is located within the Campus SophiaTech in Sophia Antipolis (Alpes-Maritimes), which is a training and research center dedicated to Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). His research activities concern the field of telecommunications, radar, e-health, security and intelligent buildings. They are organized into three themes: CMA (Antenna Design and Modeling), EDGE (Edge Computing and Digital Electronic) and ISA (Microwave Imaging and Antenna Systems). The unit has about 70 people, including about thirty permanent members (teacher-researchers, researchers, administrative and technical staff) and about forty non-permanent members (doctoral students, post-doctoral students, engineers and trainees).
The candidate will be able to benefit for this study from the different means of the LEAT in terms of CAD (Computer Aided Design) for the design of antennas (ANSYS HFSS, CST Microwave Studio), production of prototypes and antenna measurements.
The recruited person will be placed under the hierarchical responsibility of the project managers.
