Missions

This project targets here the generation of quantum superposition states of motion in an optomechanical microresonator initially prepared in its mechanical ground state thanks to an ultralow temperature environment. To do so, the cavity will be optically driven so as to realize a coherent superposition of addition and subtraction operations (via one-photon Raman interactions) and identity operations. This will result in transforming the initial vacuum state to any arbitrary target state in several driving steps [4]. Reconstruction of the generated states will then be performed through optical homodyne tomography.

Activities

The recruited postdoctoral fellow will aim at achieving these objectives, i.e. the generation and characterized of quantum states of motion. Its activities will include the design and implementation of the optical setup that involves two-color pumping, cryogenics, and operation in the single-photon regime; nanofabrication and characterization of samples; data acquisition and processing; use of the theoretical model [4].

Skills

The candidates must hold a PhD in physics, and have a solid background in optics and quantum mechanics. Experience in setting up optical experiments, automated acquisition and processing of experimental data, and numerical modeling are desired. English proficiency.

Work Context

The work will take place at the Matériaux et Phénomènes Quantiques laboratory (MPQ, https://mpq.u-paris.fr), a joint unit of the CNRS and Université Paris Cité, located on the Paris Rive Gauche campus. The laboratory specializes in the study of frontier quantum materials and in the development of innovative quantum devices.
The postdoctoral fellow will join the nano-optomechanics research group which hosts a quantum optics activity in semiconductor nanodisks [5]. He/she will benefit from an operational experimental environment for the project (optics, cryogenics, instrumentation), computing tools and access to the clean room of the laboratory.
