Missions

This 4-months mission is part of an 'EMODnet Biology' project (https://www.emodnet.eu) aiming at integrating and releasing at large key datasets (and their metadata) on the distribution and abundance of marine taxa. The candidate will achieve taxonomic classification of the planetary imaging datasets generated by automated confocal microscopy during the Tara Oceans project.

Activities

-Classification of eHCFM (https://elifesciences.org/articles/26066) 3D plankton images, within the EcoTaxa framework (https://ecotaxa.obs-vlfr.fr), by combining expert annotations with AI-based computer vision.
-Integration of taxon occurrence and abundance tables into the EMODnet open access platform.

Skills

Proficiency in: confocal laser scanning microscopy; knowledge of nano- and micro-plankton biodiversity; manual and automated classification of marine eukaryotes; informatics for ecological imaging.

Work Context

This 4-months mission is part of an 'EMODnet Biology' project (https://www.emodnet.eu) aiming at integrating and releasing at large key datasets (and their metadata) on the distribution and abundance of marine taxa. It is also part of the long-term Tara Oceans initiative, and will be achieved at the 'Station Biologique de Roscoff (UMR7144), in collaboration with members of the Tara Oceans/GOSEE (FR2022) consortia.
