Missions

The Institut d'Astrophysique de Paris (IAP) is seeking candidates for a post-doctoral position in the field of large-scale structure, starting next fall (earlier is also possible). The appointment is for 2+1 years (up to satisfactory performance) with salary depending on experience and including French social security benefits. Additional funding for conferences, collaborations, personal equipment and publications is available.

Activities

The successful candidate will develop new statistical tools for cosmology, in particular via the so-called « higher order statistics » in the context of the scientific preparation of the Euclid survey. It is expected that a lot of theoretical works will have to be carried out together with validation on state-of-the-art simulations, application to existing data and forecasting for Euclid. Applications to both clustering and weak lensing data are envisioned. Besides this work in collaboration with members of the ANR (French national agency for research) project SPHERES at IAP, DAMTP-Cambridge, UC-Berkeley, KIAS-Seoul and CPT-Marseille, independent research and leadership will be encouraged.

Skills

Applicants should have a PhD in physics, astronomy or related subject by the time of the appointment. We encourage applications from candidates with strong expertise in theoretical physics and large-scale structure; solid skills in computer programming and past experience on observational data analysis are a must.

Work Context

The IAP maintains a lively visitor program and hosts regular workshops and conferences throughout the year. The successful candidate will be immersed in an internationally visible research environment with rich intellectual and computational resources. IAP plays a leading role in several observational programs (notably Planck and Euclid). The postdoctoral researcher will also benefit from the very large cosmology/astrophysics and theoretical physics communities in the Paris region.

Additional Information

Applicants should submit a cover letter, a CV (max. 2 pages), a publication list, a short review of previous works and statement of research interests (max 4 pages) into a single pdf fil through this website. Two to three letters of recommendation should be sent directly via email to codis@iap.fr. For full consideration materials must be received before December 1st, 2018.
