Missions

Extracellular vesicles (EVs), especially from mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are currently reported to play a direct role in restoring tissue function and homeostasis. MSC EVs have been increasingly regarded as competent effectors in alternative to cells for regenerative medicine in a paradigm shift switching cell therapy to sub-cellular (EV) therapy. One important challenge in the implementation and scale-up of MSC EV production is protocol transfer/implementation into bioreactors compatible with good manufacturing test (GMP). We intend to set-up MSC culture in scalable stirred tank GMP bioreactors in order to produce EVs.

Activities

We intend to set-up MSC culture in scalable stirred tank GMP bioreactors in order to produce EVs. Besides, we will develop a formulation based on the obtained vesicles combined to a hydrogel and test its immune-modulatory effect in vitro and in vivo.

Skills

Applicant expertise: cell culture in bioreactors, cell culture of mammalian cells in stirring tank bioreactors using microcarriers, extracellular vesicle production and characterization, immune-modulatory tests in vitro and in vivo.
