Type of Contract : FTC Scientist
Contract Period : 18 months
Expected date of employment : 2 May 2022
Proportion of work : Full time
Remuneration : -Gross salary between 2,663 and 3,783 € pcm, depending on experience
Desired level of education : PhD
Experience required : 1 to 4 years

As a member of our laboratory, the postdoctoral research associate will be a member of the "Organometallics: Materials and Catalysis" research team. The proposed project fits within the theme of organometallic synthesis for sustainable development. The PDRA will work under the direction of Yann Sarazin, and will aim to synthesise and characterise heterobimetallic complexes built on metals of blocks 1 and 2, and to study their reactivity towards targeted organic substrates

The postdoctoral research associate will synthesise soluble heterobimetallic complexes comprising both an alkali metal and a large alkaline earth metal. The resulting complexes will be characterised in detail, both in the solid state (X-ray diffraction) and in solution (in particular by high-resolution multinuclear NMR). The bonding properties in these compounds will also be investigated, in particular by combining experimental data with theoretical calculations (DFT). The reactivity of the complexes towards key organic substrates will be explored. The PDRA will have to take charge of writing scientific reports on the progress of the work and that of publications on the major results. (S)he will have to regularly present the results during oral presentations. (S)He will also be involved in the scientific life of our research group, in particular through the supervision of master students.

The candidate must have expertise and a strong interest in organometallic synthesis, and must hold a doctorate in organometallic chemistry. (S)He must have skills in synthesis under an inert atmosphere and in structural analysis (spectroscopies including NMR, XRD). The proposed activity requires a good level of English, to work in a multicultural team, as well as for the dissemination of science: writing of scientific reports, articles, presentations in English. The candidate must be able to work in a team and in complete autonomy, and will be involved in the supervision of Master students.

Work Context

The Institut des Sciences Chimiques de Rennes (ISCR UMR 6226) is a mixed research unit that involves the CNRS, the Université de Rennes 1, the Institut National des Sciences Appliquées (INSA), the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Rennes (ENSCR) and the IUT of Lannion. With a total staff of over 500 people, the ISCR brings together all academic chemistry researchers in Rennes, including nearly 300 permanent staff members with around 140 teacher-researchers, 60 CNRS researchers, and 80 Engineers and Technicians. The research staff at the ISCR is assembled into eight teams of different sizes and covering a very wide disciplinary field. The expertise of ISCR chemists for the design and synthesis of molecules and materials with high added value is internationally recognised. The various disciplinary fields of expertise include molecular chemistry (organic, organometallic and coordination chemistry), materials from solid-state chemistry and metallurgy, catalysis, electrochemistry, theoretical chemistry and chemical engineering. The recruited PDRA will be a member of the "Organometallics: Materials and Catalysis" team, which gathers nearly 50 permanent staff members (researchers, teaching and supporting staff) and ca. 40 non-permanent (PhD students, postdoctoral fellows, master students). The scientific project is part of an ANR collaboration involving other teams at ISCR (chemical reactivity, DFT calculations) and Rouen (high resolution NMR); frequent interactions with these groups, possibly involving short research stays in Rouen, must therefore be anticipated.

Constraints and risks

ISCR is classified as a Restricted Regime Zone (ZRR).
