The post doc proposal is part of a European research project, the BioPIM project, EIC PATHFINDER program, which started in May 2022. This project aims, among other things, to parallelize and evaluate algorithms in the field of genomics on a "Processing-in-Memory" (PIM) architecture. The hardware architecture is based on a new DRAM memory developed by the company UPMEM (a partner in the project) which allows the creation of 8 GB memory arrays that integrate 128 microprocessors. In this context, the candidate will have to develop a research project in line with the objectives of the BioPIM project, such as revisiting and adapting the main data structures used in genomics to the PIM paradigm.

IRISA (Institut de Recherche en Informatique et Systèmes Aléatoires) is today one of the largest French research laboratories (over 850 people) in the field of computer science and new information technologies. Structured in seven scientific departments, the laboratory constitutes a pole of research excellence with scientific priorities such as: bioinformatics, system security, new software architectures, virtual reality, mass data analysis and artificial intelligence.
The candidate will be attached to the GenScale team, IRISA, Beaulieu, Rennes. GenScale is a research team in bioinformatics. Its main objective is to develop methods, tools and scalable software for genomic data processing. The research is motivated by the rapid development of next-generation sequencing (NGS) and third-generation sequencing (TGS) technologies which pose very challenging problems in terms of both bioinformatics and computer science.
