Missions

The Institut de Physique des 2 Infinis de Lyon (IP2I, previously known as IPNL), a joint laboratory of the French IN2P3/CNRS and the Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1, invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher position to work on the CMS experiment.
The successful applicant is expected to make strong contributions to the team's activities in top quark physics and in the tracker upgrade sector. The group has a leading role in searches for vector like quarks in top - Higgs final states, and has a program of top quark precision measurements within the effective field theory framework. The IP2I is also deeply involved in the future outer tracker endcap (TEDD) design, as well as in the construction and integration of outer tracker Dees, which are the mechanical components supporting and cooling of the silicon modules.
Applicants must have a PhD degree in experimental particle physics at the time of appointment, and less than two years of post-doctoral experience. Appointment is for two years, with a net salary of 2150€ per month. They should provide a statement of research interests and a CV including a list of publications. Three reference letters should be received at the below e-mail addresses prior to the application deadline. The deadline for applications is May 20th 2021.

Activities

Although the work will be carried out mostly at IP2I, frequent working periods at CERN are foreseen if Covid-19 restrictions permit.

Skills

The candidate should have outstanding experience in physics data analysis and will contribute to instrumentation activities, thus a prior experience in instrumentation is a plus. The candidate should also have strong coding skills, be able to develop or maintain physics data analysis frameworks and contribute to data acquisition and control software for the tracker upgrade.

Work Context

The IP2I is a founding member of CMS and had a key role in the development, installation and commissioning of the electromagnetic calorimeter and tracking detectors. The group has also made important contributions in the area of top quark physics (top mass, top pair resonances, vector like tops…), and in the area of Higgs boson searches and measurements (Higgs to two photons decay channel, HH, top-Higgs coupling). In addition, the group has important responsibilities in the CMS upgrade effort (future outer tracker and improved muon RPC).
