The aim of this work is to characterize by TEM and local probe the structure and morphology of MIM device used in resistive memories at different moment of the endurance cycles. The objective is to find any correlations between chemical modifications at the local scale (diffusion, segregation, local oxidation…) and drift in electrical properties. An experimental protocol must be developed by the candidate on the lab programs in order to obtain rapid and robust information as well as quantification of chemical properties (bonds, crystalline states) and to correlate to the electrical properties and evolution of resistance state.

- Use of a FEI Titan Ultimate TEM
- Modeling and correlate electrical properties to chemical structure (bonding,…)
Skills and background
The candidate must have a doctorate in chemistry, physics or material science. Background in local scale characterization and more precisely in TEM is mandatory. Knowledge of resistive memories such as RRAM or PCM is appreciate.
The candidate must have very strong interpersonal and analytical skills since this work is made in collaboration between two laboratories and different teams and is also part of a European project. The candidate will have to write reports and make oral presentation in European meetings.
This work is a part of the European project WakeMeUp with objectives of improving and understanding reliability and endurance of resistive memories. The European consortium is composed of 19 partners both academics and industrials. All are working in microelectronics field.
This work is more precisely a collaborative work between CEA and LTM. The candidate will work under the supervision of S. David and C. Vallée from LTM and V. Delaye from CEA.
Constraints and risks
The candidate may need to work in clean room sometimes.
