3-yr (2+1) CNRS/ANR postdoctoral position at the LAPTh, Annecy, France, starting in Fall 2020 (earlier/later start possible), to work on modelling of high-energy emission of Galactic compact objects.
We expect the successful candidate to work on theoretical predictions for compact object populations in the Galactic bulge, modelling the formation and evolution of different classes of high-energy emitters. Multi-wavelength and multi-messenger signatures of such populations will also be explored, from radio to gamma rays. The candidate is expected to play a leading role in the project.
We look for a person with extensive know-how in compact object population synthesis codes, solid formation in the theory of compact object formation and evolution, as well as knowledge of formation and evolution of nuclear stellar clusters, globular clusters, and the Galactic bulge. We invite also candidates having a background in high-energy astrophysics of compact objects (radio, X, and gamma rays and their multi wavelength connection) to apply.
She/he should be skilled in both analytical and numerical calculations, and have a track record at the level of international standards. Strong motivation to work at the frontier of different fields will be particularly appreciated (galactic or gravitational dynamics, particle astrophysics/cosmology, dark matter indirect searches and phenomenology). Applicants must hold a PhD at the start of the contract, and experienced candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
This position is embedded in the context of the project “Galactic high-energy Emission from Compact Objects“ (GECO), funded by the French National Agency for Research (ANR), PI: F. Calore.
The candidate will be hosted in the Astroparticle & Cosmology team of LAPTh, on of the three teams of the laboratory. The candidate will also benefit from interactions with the experimental scientists of LAPP, involved in the HESS, CTA and Virgo experiments.
Travel and research funding is guaranteed by the ANR starting grant.
