This position is part of a research project aiming at better understanding the function of membrane nanodomains in plants. The main objective is to characterize the small family of "Hypersensitive Induced Reaction Proteins" (HIR) proteins, specific to plants and localized in membrane nanodomains in Arabidopsis thaliana. The project aims to highlight their role in the cell and discover new physiological functions regulated by these proteins.


First, via microscopy approaches, the post-doctoral researcher will investigate the intracellular dynamics of the different HIR proteins and will determine whether these proteins are involved in the formation of specific membrane nanodomains or in certain endocytic mechanisms. Secondly, to discover new biological functions regulated by the HIR2 isoform, proteins interacting with the latter will be isolated (interactome). Then, the necessary molecular and phenotypic characterizations will be performed to understand the importance of these interactions. Thirdly, in a more targeted context, the post-doctoral researcher will implement experimental approaches to understand the function of the interaction between HIR proteins and aquaporins of the PIP subfamily. One hypothesis is that HIRs may play the role of scaffolding proteins for recruiting these aquaporins in specific membrane nanodomains.


Candidates must hold a doctorate and proven research skills evidenced by high quality publications. We are seeking a highly motivated and independent scientist with a strong background in microscopy, protein biochemistry and molecular physiology of plants. The candidate will also have knowledge in the field of intracellular dynamics of membrane proteins. Fluency in English and a good team spirit are also essential.

Work Context

Research will be carried out in the group of Dr Christophe Maurel in the Biochemistry and Plant Molecular Physiology department (Montpellier, France) under the supervision of Dr Enric Zelazny. This recruitment will be carried out in the context of an ANR project entitled NUTRIR. The laboratory and the host team have worldwide recognition in the field of membrane protein dynamics and plant transport physiology ( (Dubeaux G. et al. 2018, Mol Cell 69 :953 ; Martinière A. et al. 2019, Plant Physiol 179 :1581 ; Rodrigues O. et al. 2017, PNAS 114: 9200 ; Prado K. et al., 2019, Plant Cell, 31:417).
