Missions
The first task will consist of manufacturing microsystems according to a recently developed technology [Mugherli et al., Lab-on-chip 2020], and associating them with an optical measurement method. This work will be performed together with partners specialized in optics and electronics, in order to prepare interfacing with the multimodal platform. Then, a calibration will be established on a gas bench for field measurements. The micro-sensors will then be integrated into a multimodal platform for the detection and monitoring of atmospheric pollutants. The ultimate goal is to deploy this platform in the field in conjunction with users and partners who will implement specific algorithms to analyze air pollution.
Activities
The manufacture of the micro-sensors will be carried out in collaboration with our partners specialized in microfluidics, optics and electronics. The first step will be to adjust the configurations and experimental conditions to manufacture micro-sensors compatible with interfacing on the platform and with the target pollutants. Once the micro-sensor preparation method and their optical and electronic interfacing have been validated, they will be calibrated on a gas bench allowing them to be exposed to controlled concentrations of pollutants. The calibrated micro-sensors will then be integrated into the measurement platform that will be installed in the field.
Skills
The 24-month post-doctoral fellowship is open to M/F applications motivated by the manufacture of gas micro-sensors based on microfluidic protocols, and their calibration on a bench. The applicant will also have a strong interest in instrumental development and optical detection. A good sense of communication will be necessary to interact with the various partners of the project. A thesis is an advantage, but Bac+5 level profiles in line with the project will also be considered.
Work Context
The LEDNA team of UMR NIMBE, located on the Paris-Saclay campus, develops innovative gas sensors for air quality, a major societal concern. The OMS classifies atmospheric pollution as a certain carcinogen, justifying the deployment of platforms for measuring atmospheric pollutants, in order to assess the exposure of populations and ecosystems.
